Tuition Fees & Living Costs
- Public Universities: Tuition-free; students pay a semester contribution fee of €250 – €350
- Private Universities: Tuition ranges from €5,000 – €20,000 per year
- Living Expenses: €10,000 – €12,000 per year, covering accommodation, transport, food, and insurance
A blocked account of €11,208 (as of 2025) is required to show proof of financial means for visa purposes.
Language Proficiency Requirements – IELTS / German
- For English-taught programs:
- IELTS: 0 – 6.5 overall
- TOEFL/PTE accepted by most universities
- For German-taught programs:
- German Language Proficiency: B2 to C1 level (via TestDaF, DSH, or Goethe-Institut)
Many Master’s programs in Germany are available in English, particularly in STEM fields.
Standardized Tests
- Undergraduate: Some universities require SAT/ACT or entrance tests depending on academic background.
- Postgraduate (Masters/PhD):GRE/GMAT may be required for competitive or business-related programs.

Application Timeline & Process
- 12–18 Months Before Intake: Research universities and program requirements (via DAAD.de or uni-assist.de)
- Take Language Proficiency Tests: IELTS, TOEFL, TestDaF, or Goethe Certificate
- Prepare Application Materials: SOP, LORs, academic documents, and CV
- Apply Online:
- Winter Intake: Apply by March – July
- Summer Intake: Apply by November – January
- Receive Admission Letter (Zulassungsbescheid): Usually issued between 4–10 weeks after application
- Open a Blocked Account & Arrange Insurance
- Apply for German Student Visa: Must show admission letter, blocked account, insurance, and accommodation details

• Service fee (VFS or third-party center): €25 – €40
• Documentation fee (translation, attestation, courier): BDT 10,000 – 30,000
• Blocked account (proof of funds): €11,208 minimum balance
