Intakes & Application Deadlines

  • September (Main Intake) – Most programs available.
  • February (Secondary Intake) – Limited availability for some Master’s programs.

Deadlines:

  • For September: Apply between October – April.
  • For February: Apply between June – October (previous year).

Tuition Fees & Living Costs

  • EU/EEA Students: €2,530 per year (statutory tuition fees, 2025).
  • Non-EU/EEA Students: €6,000 – €20,000 per year (depending on course and university).
  • Living Costs: €10,000 – €13,000 per year (~€800 – €1,100/month).

Scholarships: Holland Scholarship, Erasmus+, university-specific scholarships (UvA, Leiden, TU Delft).

Language Proficiency Requirements – IELTS / TOEFL

  • English-taught Programs:
    • IELTS: 6.0 – 6.5 (UG) / 6.5 – 7.0 (PG)
    • TOEFL iBT: 80–100
  • Dutch-taught Programs: NT2-II (Dutch as a Second Language exam).
  • Many universities also accept Cambridge English or PTE Academic.

Standardized Tests

  • Undergraduate: SAT/ACT not mandatory, but may be requested for competitive courses.
  • Postgraduate: GRE/GMAT may be required for Economics, Business, or MBA programs.
  • Some programs require entrance exams or portfolio submissions (Design/Architecture).

Application Process & Timeline

  1. 12 months before intake: Research programs on Studielink (Netherlands official application portal).
  2. Prepare Documents: Passport, transcripts, IELTS/TOEFL/PTE, SOP, LORs, CV.
  3. Submit Application: Apply via Studielink.nl + university-specific portals (if required).
  4. Receive Admission Letter: Universities send conditional/unconditional offers.
  5. Pay Tuition Fees & Confirm Enrolment.
  6. Apply for Visa (MVV + Residence Permit) through the university.

 

Netherlands Student Visa – Requirements & Documents

  • Visa Type: MVV (Entry Visa) + Residence Permit (VVR)
  • Visa Fee: ~€210 (subject to change)
  • Required Documents:
    • Offer letter from Dutch university
    • Valid passport
    • Proof of funds (~€1,150/month = €13,800/year)
    • Proof of tuition fee payment
    • Health insurance
    • Academic documents & language scores

Visa processing is usually facilitated by the university and takes 4–8 weeks.

Work While Studying & Post-Graduation

  • During Studies:
    • Non-EU/EEA students can work 16 hours/week during semester or full-time in summer (June–August) with a work permit.
    • EU/EEA students have no work restrictions.
  • After Graduation (Orientation Year Permit):
    • Graduates can stay for 1 year to find a job.
    • Pathway to Highly Skilled Migrant Visa for long-term work.
